The Vlaams Supercomputing Centrum consortium interconnects HPC clusters from the Flemish region.

The VSC clusters are open to all members of the Flemish universities.

VSC description

The Vlaams Supercomputing Centrum is a virtual organisation aiming at enabling and facilitating access to Tier-1 and Tier-2 clusters deployed in the Flemish universities. The clusters are inter-connected between the universities via a dedicated Belnet 10 Gbps network. Users from Ghent, KUL, VUB, Antwerpen and UHasselt can create a VSC account and run jobs on the VSC clusters.
Check the VSC web site for all the details.

VUB & VSC

VUB users are therefore entitled - and warmly encouraged - to create a VSC account and use the available resources within VSC.
When a VUB user creates a VSC account, access to Hydra must then be made with the VSC account since Hydra is part of VSC.
Detailed information on how to connect to VSC clusters are given on the VSC web site.

Tier-1 access

The Tier-1 cluster access is based on project submission and evaluation. The Tier-1 cluster is used either for large parallel jobs (from 1000 to 10000 cores) or for running a very large batch of jobs (batch of 1000 - 10000 jobs). Three times per year, submitted projects are reviewed by an evaluation commission. Better contact us well in advance to accompany you in preparing your project.

OUR SERVICES

The services provided by the HPC team within the VSC context cover the Hydra cluster management and VSC user support related to Hydra usage.

Support

The support service is definitively extended for VSC specific questions and for any VSC user requiring help to run jobs on Hydra.

Software

We offer a large software panel on Hydra which is automatically made available on all the other VSC clusters. If needed, we can arrange to have your code/program optimally compiled on a specific VSC cluster.

Tier-1 access

If you require help or information to gain access and use the VSC Tier-1 cluster, just let us know. Having your code and jobs well prepared will avoid wasting the precious CPU time on the Tier-1 cluster.
